Ducessa

🐕 UnknownPuppyAge unknownNational
Ducessa is a medium to large shepherd cross-breed around 4 years old (Born in 2022). Our beautiful ‘Duchess’, born 2022 and 24kg, is affectionate, sensitive and bonds very strongly with her people. If you enjoy the rewards of training a dog (especially Shepherd types) but are looking for a slightly smaller dog, Ducessa may be your girl. Ducessa is partially sighted – she can see well enough but her fosterer thinks she has tunnel vision. We are looking for a reasonably experienced home for Ducessa; ideally one with Shepherd or larger breed experience. The right home will find the prospect of investing time into training part of her appeal. Ducessa is a work in progress but, as her foster carer says, after a few months she will be a cracking dog! Ducessa is already brilliant in the house; she loves to curl up on the sofa with you, will even try to share your chair! She walks ‘like a dream’ on the lead; (‘one of the best dogs I’ve ever had on the lead’ says a very experienced fosterer!) Ducessa prefers being close to her person than bounding around, and is easy to manage. She travels well, is crate trained and sleeps through the night, enjoying a lazy morning. She’s not a greedy girl; prefers her walk before eating her breakfast. Although she does like her treats…this makes her easy to train. Ducessa is still a nervous dog in many respects. Outside, on walks and in the garden, she barks. She barks at dogs, unusual noises, traffic and people she does not know. Her body language shows fear and frustration – she isn’t wishing to be aggressive, but is unsure, needs reassurance, input from her owner. Her tail never stops wagging; she does want to be involved; wants to play. Her new home will understand these behaviours and how to work with Ducessa to improve her confidence. Ducessa needs slow introductions to dogs and people. Strangers coming to the home will unsettle Ducessa initially, this is an area of training that is being addressed, but again, we will need someone with the patience and experience to help her gain confidence. It is thought Ducessa is good with cats but has not been cat tested in the UK She is looking for someone or people who will enjoy giving her the right care in order for her to blossom. Ducessa can live with another dog, but this dog must be calm, patient and kind, and dog savvy, and introductions must be done slowly with the separation options mentioned above. We are told Ducessa previously was fine with cats (in Romania) Ducessa would love a home with a garden. She is looking for a home where people are around most of the time, as loves to be with people.
