Vera

Meet the energetic and intelligent Vera. Vera is a two year old female Malinois Cross, medium/large in size, who is very nervous at first but settles to become friendly once she trusts people. Vera is very nervous of people when she first meets them. She can sometimes nip when overexcited or when taking treats, so her new family will need to continue working on this with her. Vera accepts a collar, harness, and lead, though she can be excitable on the lead and tends to pull, especially at the start of walks. She has shown some reactivity toward other dogs and people while on walks but is generally good with dogs she knows, though she may growl if they come too close. Vera will need a very active family due to her high energy level and breed traits, with lots of long walks and mental stimulation through training. Vera can have poo accidents in her kennel, so her new home will need to work on toilet training. She previously suffered from severe separation anxiety, including when left alone in a separate room while her family was still present, causing barking and yelping. She has managed to be left for up to four hours with another dog but still shows signs of separation anxiety in kennels. Vera has never shown food aggression, but she is known to counter-surf and steal food lying around, including other dogs’ food. She will need continued training and should be fed separately from other dogs.
